Tavern Tasty Meats was started in 1991 by Roger Human, an ex policeman who rekindled his boy-hood experience of keeping pigs. The shop was developed on his smallholding, the site of an old village pub, in the village of Smallburgh, Norfolk. After a short time the traditional meat business was accredited by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust as Norfolk’s only rare breed butcher...

In 2001 Andrew Hudson, a local farmer who had been supplying Tavern Tasty Meats with rare breed pork, became a partner in the business. Harvey Hudson Farming is a small family farm that now supplies the majority of the pork and lamb to the shop.

Andrew and Roger are both very passionate about the quality of meat that can be produced from traditional breeds. This is achieved by high standards of animal welfare and stockmanship. Slowly maturing animals that have been extensively reared. Once the animals arrive at the shop, they are worked on by skilled butchers who know how to look after the meat to achieve its best potential. Staff members can also advise on how to prepare and cook your purchase to achieve maximum flavour.

Today, many more people want to know the provenance of what they eat, to this end Tavern Tasty Meats can offer full traceability and low food miles and having gone to great lengths in ensuring that are products are of the highest standard, we endeavour to offer customer service that is friendly, old fashioned and personal.

Up until now, Tavern Tasty Meats has remained within the boundary of Norfolk, supplying many outlets from farm shops to supermarkets, but we are happy to announce that we are now moving in to the national market and have launched our online shop.
